May is Foster Care Appreciation Month
I heard it said that we change culture by the stories we tell and the things we celebrate. Often when we think about foster care we compartmentalize it as though it is just for those who are foster families or some may think of it as just another yearly project or ministry of the church but in reality God has called us all to care for the orphans. It should be the very culture of our church. Are we sharing testimonies of those who have adopted or fostered? Are we celebrating those who are on the front lines loving and caring sacrificially for those children who have been neglected and abused? May is the perfect month to share testimonies of caring for vulnerable children and celebrating foster families. Here are some ideas that you can do this month:
Recognize Foster Parents on a Sunday Morning and give them a gift card to go out to dinner or for Grub Hub.
Pray for foster families and foster children in your service.
Have a foster parent or someone who grew up in foster care share a testimony.
Have a respite night where foster parents can drop off their kids for a couple of hours to get a break.
